Gaspare Otto Melcher
He was born in Chur in 1945.
After studying in Salzburg, Venice, Sardinia and Tunisia, he moved to Amsterdam in 1970.
Based on antique pictorial writings, he began to study ideographic base frameworks.
He created large-format paintings, which are also exhibited in environments. The ideographical material of the„ERSTEN- und ZWEITEN ZEHNERSERIE“ (First and Second Tenner Series), which is elaborated in these pictures through accumulation and variation of nine ideograms, became the basis of the entire oeuvre.
1975 he moved to Tuscany. Melcher's painting goes on to resolutely follows the path of increasing pictorial condensation of ideographic frameworks and figure abbreviations.
Thus emerged the series of works „Szene und Ideogramm“ (Scene and Ideogram),1977 – 79, „STEPHEN GRAY“,1984 – 88, „THEOREME“,1989 – 94 and the series „DUCCIO CAME NOT BY USURA“ 1990 - 95.
In 1995, the artist encountered his ideograms on the UFO debris that was found in Roswell, New Mexico, 1947 and created the extensive series of works „THE ROSWELL SYMBOLS”, 1997 – 2000, which integrated these ideograms into his own ideographic language.
In 2006 the artist went to Cairo to study ancient Egyptian painting as a guest of the SKK studio. There he created the „ERSTE ÄGYPTISCHE TAGEBUCH“ (First Egyptian Diary) and later a graphic portfolio, the „DIARIO TOSCANO“ (Tuscan Diary), Edition Luciano Fasciati, Chur, 2010.
A part of the diary was exhibited together with the „SAQQARA-SEQUENCE“, a series of large-format tempera paintings in 2008 at Horizon One Gallery, Mohamed M. Kalil Museum, Cairo. The publication "NETHER MATRIX", issued by Edescha-art Chur, accompanied the exhibition.
Between 2011 and 2014 he dedicated a series of large-format collages to the artistic role models that he admired in his youth.
To date, the series includes 14 "HOMMAGES" to artists he met personally in the seventies or whose works made a strong impression on him.
In August 2014 traveled to Cairo for a second six-month stay, where he created the „ZWEITE ÄGYPTISCHE TAGEBUCH“ (Second Egyptian Diary).
In October 2015, the two Egyptian diaries, comprising about 250 drawings, were exhibited in the Municipal Gallery of Chur. On this occasion the book „ÄGYPTISCHE TAGEBÜCHER“ (Egyptian Diaries), edescha-art Chur, was also published by the Gallery Fasciati, Chur.
In 2016 he began with the series "EGYPT-POEMS", drawings that serve as designs for large-format works. The resulting cycle of works, under the title „PROJEKT MR“, 2006 - 2020, includes drawings, collages, tempera paintings and canvases.
